Community Involvement Annual Susan G. Komen Walk Health Right staff and volunteers annually participate in the Susan Komen 'Race for the Cure’ for Breast Cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation supports our program to educate women on the importance of monthly self breast exams. We educate EVERY woman on EVERY visit to the clinic!
Wal-Mart Consolidated Warehouse For the past two years, the employees of the Wal-Mart Consolidated Warehouse in Cross Lanes have raised money for WV Health Right in conjunction with Kanawha County's Spring Clean-Up campaign. This year, while the county collected hundreds of tons of recyclables, employees collected dollars for Health Right through the sale of food and drinks to the volunteers and workers at the two-day event. We appreciate their support for the clinic. We provide health care to many Wal-Mart employees and their families.
Morris Memorial Volunteers One evening every other month for the past four years, a group of about 20 volunteers descends on the clinic. The Mission Team from Morris Memorial United Methodist Church religiously shows up to do whatever is needed. Pill popping or pre-counting and filling prescription vials is what the group usually tackles. “We couldn’t function at the levels we do without the help of community-minded citizens like the Morris Memorial Mission Team,” said Pat White, clinic executive director. “We have to plan ahead for this group. These folks can accomplish a lot in one evening.” “We look forward to coming to Health Right,” said Carolyn Williams, team leader. “This is an activity we started when Dr. Bob Leadbetter (a regular volunteer at the clinic) served as leader of our team. We’ve continued it because we can see the value of our efforts. We feel like we’re helping others in some small way.” The group is responsible for all mission efforts of the church—whether they are local or international. Morris Memorial’s minister, Barry Moll, says the group holds strong beliefs, “This team believes that you can’t plan mission work without doing mission work.” On a recent visit to the clinic, church members were pill counting and helping the front office catch up on some filing. We appreciate seeing their familiar faces volunteering at the clinic. The Morris Memorial Mission Team helps us achieve our mission as well—to serve our community and help those who sometimes need a helping hand.
