WV Health Right serves women and men, ages 18-64, who meet the Federal Poverty Level guidelines without regard to race, creed, ethnic background, or sexual orientation. Our patients are the uninsured who do not qualify for government insurance programs (e.g., Medicaid or Medicare) and who are unable to access affordable medical, dental, or pharmaceutical care.

  • Our 18,826 patients come from throughout West Virginia.

  • 84% of our patients either work or live in a household where someone is employed.

  • Last year we provided free health care valued at $40+ million, including prescription medications valued at $21.8 million.

  • 521 patients currently participate in our diabetic education program to learn how to manage their diabetes through changes in diet and exercise. Over 200 patients have stopped tobacco use in the past year after enrolling in our PufferSnuffer classes.

  • 2/3rds of our patients are women.

  • In 2009, for early detection of breast cancer, we provided over 1,300 free mammograms and 1,500+ clinical breast exams for women between the ages of 40-64.

  • For every dollar we receive, we leverage $33 of in-kind care.

  • Medical and dental professionals at all levels volunteer their time and talents to provide patient care.

  • WVRx completed its first year of operations and processed over $1.3 million in medications to West Virginia’s working poor.

  • GYNs and a GYN Nurse Practitioner have joined our ranks as specialist volunteers.

  • Every patient is screened for Hepatitis C and 1,600+ with elevated liver functions have received further tests required for diagnosis of the disease.

  • 2,589 new medical patients and 1,803 new dental patients now consider WV Health Right their health care home.

  • WVRx referred over 740 patients in need of a “medical home” to a public or private clinic for care while filling 1,048 prescriptions.
