is a Type 2 diabetic who knows how devastating it can be to not have the money to buy his medications and he is extremely grateful for all Health Right has done for him since he became a patient in 2004.

"I was working a management retail job in Charlotte, but I was under so much stress that I decided it was time to change careers," Tim said. "I moved back to St. Albans to be with my family and to go to Mountaineer Beauty School. I had COBRA for six months, but I lost my insurance because I couldn’t afford it even though I was working two part-time jobs. It was taking all my money to buy my insulin, cholesterol and blood pressure medications, so I stopped taking them and tried to control my diabetes with diet and exercise. That was a big mistake, though, and I was so sick I was having trouble being able to go to school and work. Luckily, a student at school told me about Health Right and I became a patient here five years ago. The staff has been wonderful to me and they told me to never go without my medications again. I also began attending the diabetic education classes which have taught me so much about my disease and the damage not taking medications can cause."

Students from West Virginia University School of Dentistry

Students gain hands-on experience at the West Virginia Health Right Dental Clinic. Eight dentists who volunteer at the clinic have gained adjunct faculty status at WVU, allowing the students to practice their skills under the supervision of a professionally licensed faculty member as they provide dental care for uninsured, low-income adults.

In addition, students in dental hygiene or dental assisting programs also practice their skills at the Health Right Dental Clinic. The students work under the supervision of attending faculty from the West Virginia University-Tech Dental Hygiene Program, including Health Right’s Camille Arceneaux. This year, a senior at Riverside High School is “shadowing” at the clinic as part of her dental assisting training at Carver Career Center. The students increase the Dental Clinic’s capacity to provide dental cleanings and preventive education.
